a working draft, written by the people building nestr and not by a solicitor. it describes what the product actually does, so it is accurate rather than authoritative. it will be replaced before nestr opens to the public.
who you are agreeing with
nestr is a place where cat owners in london find someone to look after their cat. the sitting itself is done by the sitter, not by nestr. nestr introduces the two of you, holds the money until the visits are done, and keeps the record of what happened.
that means a sitter is not employed by nestr. they set their own price, choose which bookings to accept, and are responsible for the care they give.
what an owner pays, and when
when you ask a sitter to take a booking, your card is put on hold for the full amount. nothing is taken. if the sitter says no, or does not answer in time, the hold is released and you are never charged.
when a sitter accepts, the whole amount is taken at once and held by nestr. it is not the sitter’s money yet. it becomes theirs one visit at a time, as each visit is done and evidenced.
the price you see includes nestr’s booking fee. the sitter’s own rate and nestr’s fee are both shown before you confirm.
what a sitter is paid, and when
a sitter is paid for the visits they did and evidenced. payment is made once, after the last visit, less nestr’s commission. money reaches their bank on their payment provider’s usual schedule.
a visit that cannot be evidenced is not paid for. a cat who hides, or refuses medication, is still a visit done: nobody is given a reason to fake a photograph.
visits that do not happen
if a visit is missed, that visit is refunded to the owner in full, including nestr’s fee on it. the rest of the booking carries on.
to be settled: what a booking cancelled after acceptance pays, and whether a sitter who withdraws late forfeits anything. until that is decided, a cancelled booking is refunded in full and neither side is charged.
getting into your home
you decide how a sitter gets in and you tell them through nestr. a sitter sees your full address only once you have confirmed a booking with them. before that they see the postcode district and nothing else.
access details are deleted when the booking is complete.
if something goes wrong
tell us. every visit carries a time, a location reading and photographs, so there is a record to look at rather than two accounts of the same afternoon.
nestr is not an insurer. a sitter is responsible for the care they give, and nothing here limits your rights against them or your rights as a consumer under uk law.
sitters, and what we check
before a sitter is listed, nestr confirms their identity through its payment provider and confirms they may legally work in the uk. that is what “checked” means on a profile. it is not a criminal record check and nestr does not claim it is one.
leaving
you can close your account whenever you like. bookings already under way finish, and money already held is settled the ordinary way. we keep the record of what happened for as long as the law requires and no longer.
